To increase the density of your lawn. This inturn will decrease the chance for weeds and improve the overall look of your lawn.
We recommend Fescue grass seed as our seed of choice for our climate. We use a blend, or mix, of fescue grass seed.
Timing
The best time of the year to seed is in the fall. Seeding in the fall provides the new seedlings more time to prepare for the stresses of summer. Seeding in the Spring can be performed but requires special applications to help ensure a weed free lawn and still allow for the seeds to germinate.
Watering
SEEDING IS A PARTNERSHIP.
We will do our part to make sure everything is done right on our end to ensure success. However, the best preparation and seeding work is wasted if the newly seeded lawn does not receive the proper amount of watering to ensure germination.
Seeding Methods
Broadcast seeding after aeration-After aerating seed would be spread throughout the yard using a fertilizer spreader.
This method is best suited for lawns with a few bare areas.
Slit-seeding with mechanical slit-seeder This is the best method for seeding and is recommended on lawns with many bare areas or a large bare area. Slit-seeders usually have vertical cutting blades that cut through the thatch layer and open up a slit or miniature furrow 1/4-inch in the soil. The slit-seeding unit ensures the seed gets into the soil where it can germinate. More seed-to-soil contact means a higher germination rate and a better stand of new grass.
We recommend making two passes with the slitseeder seeding at 50% of the recommended rate. Make the two passes at a 45° angle to each other, leaving a diamond - shaped pattern (see illustration). This method results in the seed being placed a maximum of 2 inches apart.
